| Efficiency of fine needle aspiration puncture in the diagnosis of thyroid conditions | Author : Ernesto Ramírez Núñez, Rafael Ángel Moró Vela | Abstract | Full Text | Abstract :Introduction: in the General Teaching Hospital “Dr. Agostinho Neto” the results of fine needle aspiration puncture in the diagnosis of diseases of the thyroid gland have not been specified. Objective: to specify the results of fine needle aspiration puncture for the diagnosis of diseases of the thyroid gland in the General Surgery service of the General Teaching Hospital “Dr. Agostinho Neto” from Guantanamo during the years 2016-2018. Method: a descriptive, prospective and longitudinal study was carried out. The following variables were studied: diagnosis of thyroid disease by ultrasound and classification of TIRADS (Thyroid Imaging Reporting and Data System), fine needle aspiration puncture (FNA) and paraffin biopsy. Results: the sensitivity (70.0% 95% CI 54.6-85.5) and the specificity (75.0% 95% CI 58.4-91.6) of the FNA, as well as the positive predictive value (77.8% 95% CI 62.8-92.8) and negative (66.7% 95% CI 49.9-83.5) was limited. Conclusions: discrepancies can be seen between the diagnoses identified by fine needle aspiration puncture, which expressed that in the territorial context this showed limitations for the diagnosis of thyroid disease. |

Objective: to determine the usefulness of topical Oleozón® in the treatment of oral mucosal ulcers in patients treated with mechanical artificial ventilation in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the General Teaching Hospital "Dr. Agostinho Neto”. Method: a case-control study was carried out during January-July 2018. The universe was made up of 70 patients, from which a random sample was selected and grouped in a control group (n=20) who were cleaned the oral cavity with 0.9% physiological saline solution and a study group (n=20) who were cured of the ulcer with topical Oleozón®. The location, area, form of presentation and magnitude of the ulcer and the clinical evolution were analyzed according to the treatment that was applied. Results: the satisfactory evolution of this type of ulcer was required in 40.0% of the patients that formed the control group and 90.0% of those who made up the study group (p<0.01). In this last group, the window between the start of treatment and control of the oral ulcer was 4.5 ± 1.1 days and for the first one it was 8.1 ± 2.7 days (p<0.01). Conclusion: the convenience of the application of topical Oleozón® to the treatment of oral mucosal ulcers that occur in patients treated with mechanical artificial ventilation is revealed. |
| Evaluation of adherence to the Clinical Practice Guideline for Pneumonia associated with Mechanical Ventilation | Author : Ever Rubio Lescaille, Annis Arletis Ramírez Rodríguez, Carlos Alberto Savigne Jones, Reider Blanco Nacef, Sulaimi Creagh Valiente | Abstract | Full Text | Abstract :Introduction: in the General Teaching Hospital “Dr. Agostinho Neto” the level of professional adherence to the clinical practice guideline before pneumonia associated with mechanical ventilation has not been explored. Objective: to determine the level of professional adherence to this guide during 2018. Method: during the year 2018 a descriptive, prospective study was approved, approved by the Ethics Committee. Eight professionals participated. Theoretical, empirical and mathematical-statistical methods were used. The following variables were studied: professional opinion on the guide and its evaluation, diagnosis of professional adherence to the guide. Results: the total of the professionals (100.0%) expressed a mastery of their content, usefulness and said they were adhering to the guide. Four (57.1%) of the seven indicators that were considered in the evaluation adherence to the guide were evaluated in the Adequate category, one (14.2%) was evaluated in the Partially Adequate category and 2 (28.7%) in the category Unsuitable. In general, adherence to the guide was assessed in the Adequate category (85.7%). Conclusions: professional adherence to the guide was adequate, which was limited by the insufficient structure for the development of the medical care process for patients treated with mechanical ventilation and particularly for those affected by this type of pneumonia. |

Their level of information on the subject was investigated before and after applying the educational intervention. Results: before the implementation of the designed educational intervention, 50.5% of the women expressed an insufficient level of information regarding the Family office, and this proportion decreased to 21.6% after applying it, which meant a reduction in 57.2% of women with theoretical deficits regarding the issue. The percentage that increased their preparation was 36.9% (p<0.05), which indicated the advantage of implementing the educational intervention that was designed. Conclusions: the educational intervention aimed at the preparation of women regarding breast cancer in the University Polyclinic “Emilio Daudinot Bueno” made it possible to enrich their culture regarding the subject. |
